Dusting Attack

Definition of a Dusting Attack

A dusting attack is a malicious act aimed at exposing the personal information of a cryptocurrency wallet owner.

This is achieved by executing numerous small transactions into a large number of private wallets.

Tracking Wallet Activity and Identity Risks

Such attacks can enable the attacker to track the wallet’s activity and potentially gather information about the owner’s identity.

Exploiting Neglected Cryptocurrency Funds

In general, attackers exploit the fact that many cryptocurrency users tend to overlook the minuscule amounts of funds held in the dust.

Once a wallet has been dusted, the attackers monitor the affected accounts to gather information about the associated individuals or organizations. This information can then be used in phishing scams.
